Chicago Oriental Dance Weekend  2010

Reina Belly Dance will be sponsoring workshops and competition on behalf of belly dance artist Naiarah of Argentina.  Join us as we bring the best of international belly dance to Chicago.

A diversity of Oriental dance talent will take the stage to vie for the chance to attend the Convencion de Musica y Danzas Arabes (Middle Eastern Music and Dance Convention) in Buenos Aires, Argentina and perform with celebrated musician Mario Kirlis.  Come celebrate the talent and professionalism of Chicago international dance!

Where: The Arts Center of Oak Park (Ernest Hemingway Museum Building)
             200 N. Oak Park Ave.
When:  Sunday October 24^th 2010 5:30pm (Doors open at 5pm)

(Ample and inexpensive parking available two blocks south of the Arts Center in the Avenue Parking Garage.  The Arts Center is also located just two blocks north of the Green Line Oak Park station.)

All workshops will take place at the official dance studio of CODW 2010, Dance SPA Chicago.  Dance SPA is located in Bucktown, accessible by both car and public transport (3min. walk from Western on the Blue line).

Danza Arabe Clasico con Orquesta (Classical Orchestral Belly Dance)

A mainstay of popular Oriental dance performance in Argentina, Classical Orchestral Belly Dance continues an artistic tradition of grandeur and refinement.  These workshops provide an intensive introduction to this classic form with a contemporary twist. Naiarah will cover rhythm and performance technique for Middle Eastern orchestral music as well as choreography.

Femininity, Maternity and Belly Dance

A workshop focusing on specific dance techniques which have helped women throughout the centuries to find and channel their true feminine essence and power for all aspects of maternity: sexuality, pregnancy, labor, and post-partum.  Based on research and personal experience, Amirah, of Reina Belly Dance will teach moves from a variety of Oriental dance styles including Karsilama, Drum Solo, and Taqsim which are specifically helpful in releasing every woman´s ancestral instincts for giving and sustaining life.
